Singapore is a multi-racial society, therefore we are bound to meet people of different races everywhere we go. When i was in my primary school, i have a good friend named Devi. She's a very sweet-looking, Indian girl. I remember we were very close back then. And we learned to write each other's languages. I learned how to write Tamil words from her, while she learned how to write Chinese words from me. Also, i have other friends who are from other races, like Malay and Eurasian. We are together as one no matter what race we belong to.
Living in this multi-racial society, i've learnt that we are all the same except for our race. We are equal. Since young, i have learned about other races' culture and ettiquettes, through Racial Harmony Day celebrations we have in school. I have also been to places like Litttle India, Kampong Glam, as well as Chinatown. We have these kinds of education excursions during primary school as well as in secondary school. I remember visiting an Indian restaurant to have a taste of the food there a year ago, with my classmates. It was a fun and interesting school trip. We got to taste foods of different races.
I love my friends, no matter what colour or race are they. We are together as one. And we should live with one another in harmony, and make friends with every race we have here in Singapore.
